Objectives
Environment and Climate Change was one of the main issues of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit in July 2008, and a summary of that conference stated a long term goal that “with respect to the goal of achieving at least 50% reduction of global emissions by 2050, the G8 leaders agreed to seek to share and adopt it with all Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.”
It is apparent that in the days ahead, developing countries and Asian countries, also, will have to move toward Low-Carbon Society. In this workshop, we first examined how the five-year results of the Japan Low Carbon Scenarios toward 2050 Project (funded by the Global Environmental Research Fund) may be applied to Asian countries. Following that, we heard from local researchers about research into Low-Carbon Society in Asia. Finally, we further examined possible paths toward Low-Carbon Societies in Asia utilizing a panel discussion.
